Arizona or Bust

ROAD TRIP. Today I'm driving to Arizona to see Melissa, because apparently after complaining that I can't sleep in San Diego, the logical solution is to drive several hours into the desert. Arizona has temperatures that make you wonder if you've accidentally driven directly into the sun. Melissa has been one of those people who has seen me through some very strange chapters of my life, and there's something comforting about visiting someone who already knows the backstory. No exposition required. You don't have to start with, "Okay, so here's what happened..." She already knows what happened. Or at least enough of it to know that when I say, "You're not going to believe this," there is an excellent chance she absolutely WILL believe it because she's met me. I'm actually looking forward to the drive. Music on. Air conditioning at a setting normally reserved for meat lockers. Snacks within arm's reach. Just highway and desert and me. Sometimes getting away doesn't have to mean some grand vacation or Eat, Pray, Love revelation. Sometimes you just need to get in the car, drive to see an old friend and let your brain change scenery for a minute. Arizona, here I come. Please have the air conditioning on.
