Eight years ago, I got on a train from Los Angeles to San Diego after nearly two months of being homeless and running the streets. I was exhausted, unraveling, and desperate for a way out.

A lot has changed since then—some good, some not—but those memories never leave me. They shaped me, haunted me, and eventually pushed me to write my memoir. In many ways, telling the story has been just as much of a journey as living through it.
