Ain't

My very first line in The Wizard of Oz is, “It ain’t so heavy with one less. That makes sense, don’t it?” And let me tell you—I say the word “ain’t” so many times in this show, it’s almost comical. While the script does keep a lot of the original lines from the movie, it also adds a ton of new ones that kind of hit you over the head with the whole “no brains, no heart, no courage” thing. Like, yes—we get it, that’s the theme—but the beauty of the story is that they’ve had those qualities all along. So I’m not sure why we’re constantly spelling it out for the audience like they won’t catch on. And on top of that, I’m stuck with some of the worst grammar in the entire show! I know I’m the Scarecrow, but still—give me a break!
