Hugs

Seeing Waitress at PCPA cracked something open in me—I cried harder than I expected. Being back in San Luis Obispo has stirred up more emotion than I was prepared for. I went to see Molly Doobs in the show (who was amazing, by the way), and afterward, I found myself looking up one of the quotes that hit me the hardest. When I saw Zac yesterday, he gave me this long, quiet hug—the kind that says more than words can. It reminded me of this line from the show: “Dear Baby, I hope someday somebody wants to hold you for twenty minutes straight and that's all they do. They don't pull away. They don't look at your face. They don't try to kiss you. All they do is wrap you up in their arms and hold on tight, without an ounce of selfishness to it.” That’s exactly what it felt like. I didn’t realize how much I needed that kind of hug—or how healing it would be. Sometimes the heart just needs to be held.
