ICE

Today there’s a so-called “national shutdown,” with organizers across the country urging people not to go to work, school, or shop as a protest against Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and broader federal enforcement actions. The message being shared everywhere is simple: No work. No school. No shopping. Stop funding ICE.
I’m honestly curious to see how this plays out because on the surface it sounds so simple… right? I was thinking about going to Costco today, maybe even buying shoes but now I’m wondering if I should wait. Or maybe I’ll just drive by and see if there are even cars in the parking lot. Will there be enough employees working? It’s garbage day here too, so does that mean government workers are participating and the trash doesn’t get picked up?
I’m also watching social media to see if the people who post the loudest about politics are actually taking the day off. And honestly, if they’re not… that’s telling. Or maybe it’ll just be another regular day at stores and amusement parks, like nothing changed at all. Either way…we’ll see what happens.
