Today’s vibe: staring at the dog and contemplating the meaning of existence. Yes, this is what my life has come to.
He’s sprawled on the couch, looking tragically bored — like his biggest daily accomplishment is shifting slightly to the left so he can nap in a new spot. And honestly? Relatable. The dog’s entire schedule is: wake up, lay down, blink occasionally, repeat. And yet he still manages to look emotionally crushed by the weight of doing absolutely nothing. Same, buddy. Same.
Then I glance over at the fish. Swimming the same 20 inches back and forth, day after day, staring at the same fake plants and rocks. The fish equivalent of “Maybe tomorrow will be different.” But tomorrow is the same tank. The same pebbles. The same fake plant. Just… waiting.
Normally I wouldn’t be in my philosophical animal-watching era but today it all feels symbolic. Me, the dog, the fish — three beings trapped in our environments, trying to pretend we aren’t slowly dying of boredom.
But what can you do? Sometimes life is glamorous and sometimes it’s just sitting there staring at a sad dog and an existential fish, wondering when someone’s going to throw us a treat or tap on the glass.
Anyway… happy Tuesday from the world’s least active zoo.
