If You Don't Know

Sadly, one of my mom’s friends took his own life, and she went to the memorial this week. She told me she’d been sitting next to him every week at meetings, sometimes more than once a week, and had absolutely no idea anything was wrong. It turns out he’d been using again, over and over, and no one knew. It just reinforces something I’ve always believed—if you don’t know, you don’t know, even in a meeting, even when you think you’re seeing the whole picture. And once it’s said, that becomes all anyone focuses on. The truth is, you really have no clue what’s going on inside someone else.
