Christmas Eve

Today has been one of those days. It started with my mom asking me to take her to Hertz so she could get a rental car covered by my dad’s insurance, because she’s convinced a rat died in his car, and honestly, the smell supports that theory. Of course, nothing was simple, so we were there forever, only to get home and have her call the insurance company and find out the claim had already been closed by my dad. No heads-up, no warning, just closed. Which immediately reminded me of almost exactly four years ago when my bank account was mysteriously closed by my dad after Zelle payments… something I only found out when my card stopped working. Déjà vu, but make it festive. Anyway, we had to return the rental, came back home in pouring rain, loaded presents, and headed to my sister’s after my mom made desserts. We got there around 3-something, sort of opened gifts while my sister and Gabe were busy cooking, then Ron showed up—because Ron is always there, for reasons no one fully understands. We ate really good food, my mom left early to go serve food at an AA event, I dropped her off, went back for dessert, went home, and then got a call later that she wanted to be picked up from my sister’s before bed. And that was the day. Let’s see how tomorrow goes.
