The storyteller must accept that they can control the words on the page but never the way those words are taken in. You can shape every sentence of a story but you cannot shape how someone else will interpret it. The storyteller must learn to let go. Some people will judge. Others will understand. Many will assume they know me after a few chapters. But once these pages are out in the world the story is no longer mine alone. You get to see what you see. I get to keep breathing. I control the truth I write. You control the truth you take from it. That is memoir.
